The purpose of the study is to examine the effects of life events on marital relationships of Korean baby boomer couples. Specifically, this study focuses on the actor and partner effects of life events on marital relationships. The data were collected from 1,218 Korean baby boomer couples born between 1955 and 1963. To analyze dyadic data, Actor-Partner Interdependence Modeling (APIM) was used. The major findings are as follows. First, wives who experienced husbands¡¯ job change such as retirement, loss of employment or reemployment perceive more marital strain than those who did not go through husbands¡¯ job change experience. Second, health problems have negative effects on one¡¯s own as well as the partner¡¯s marital relationships. Third, wives whose husbands¡¯ parents have health problems perceive more marital strain than those whose husbands¡¯ parents have no health problems. Lastly, no significant actor and partner effects of the life events on the spousal support are found among Korean baby boomer couples. In sum, results show that life events function as stressors on the marital relationship, and this process functions differently for middle aged men and women in Korea.
